Refined Elegance in integral renovations: “50 Shades of Grey" Project by Interior Designer in Sitges
The interior design studio LADY J. INTERIORS is committed to incorporating refined elegance in its integral renovations. On this post we reveal the spectacular transformation process of this kitchen that will never be the same than it was.
The integral renovation of this home consisted of transforming the kitchen and bathrooms. The interior carpentry, and the heating installations were modified to embed the heating circuit behind the wall.
Originally, the kitchen consisted of a space with rustic cabinets that had been repainted and a granite countertop; an outdated and not very functional kitchen. A rather humble beginning for a kitchen that would one day accommodate a collection of carefully selected glassware and inherited pottery.
The kitchen and dining room originally looked like this:
In a very short time, thanks to the refined taste of its owner and the trust placed in my interior design studio, as well as the technical support of the team that I have carefully created, the outdated and not very functional kitchen was transformed into one of the most singular rooms of this house.
We respected the existing U-shaped layout of the kitchen, but the work areas were reorganized and optimised. Low furniture was designed in the washing and cooking area, gaining visual width, and an area of high cabinets with glass doors became a beautiful display of ceramic and glass pieces inherited and/or collected along the owner's unforgettable trips.
The doors and frames were removed, creating a more fluid circulation and visually connecting the living room with the kitchen.
After the integral renovation, the kitchen was transformed into:
The name "50 shades of grey" arises through the selection of materials during the design, all of them in different shades of grey: Santos furniture, Carrara marble, aluminium and stainless steel are elements that coexist in this space.
The kitchen furniture is from Santos in a matte silk fog grey finish, with an aluminium top and middle rim. The drawers are fully removable and have a beautiful walnut interior. The dishwasher with an integrated door is completely hidden in the design.
The kitchen worktop is made of natural marble, Carrara marble with grey veins, the backsplash in the same material creates a kitchen that generates a very enriching sensory stimulus. At the top, a shelf has been designed to display pieces of sentimental value, abandoning the obsolete concept of "kitchen to work" and turning it into a kitchen to enjoy and decorate.
One of the most important aspects of the renovation was to create warmth in the rooms through lighting.
In the kitchen, white Scandinavian style sconces with warm white light were installed that illuminate the small pieces of art displayed on the shelves. In addition, the wall lights are dimmable, allowing to adjust intensity and create a cozy atmosphere at certain times of the day.
For the ceiling, a Faro fan with light and transparent blades was chosen, which blends perfectly into the space.
The display cabinets or high units are made of grey aluminium with transparent glass, and have LED lighting in the lower part.
In the dining room, with an open connection to the kitchen, a magical atmosphere was created through color (warm gray on the walls and white on the ceilings) and the suspended blown glass luminaire from Made that not only provides the space with color but also creates a shadow game that takes you to the sea. With a few simple changes, we turned this space into a dining room with a cozy, relaxing and very pleasant atmosphere.
The final result of the "50 shades of grey" kitchen is an elegant and functional kitchen, a unique and unrepeatable kitchen thanks to the use of natural materials such as marble. A kitchen that awakens emotions (objective achieved 💪).
